The US-Mexico Border
In 2019, I took a visit to one of the most well known destination, the US-Mexico border. It was a memorable experience and a lot of fun.
Some facts about the border (Thanks to Google): The US-Mexico border is about 3060 Km long and separates four American states from six Mexican. It is also the site of many political, social and issues, such as immigration, security, trade. Some parts of the border have fencing, but not all.
My colleagues and I drove a car from Chandler, Arizona to San Diego, California, on the way we hung out for a half of day near the famous border. We wanted to see for ourselves what it looked like and how it affected the people living on both sides. We saw enormous fences that the US government built in the middle of the desert, as well as signs warning us of smugglers, drug traffickers and human traffickers. We also saw some border patrol agents and checkpoints along the way. It’s kind of nothing but sand and the fences.
The road from Chandler to San Diego was scenic and diverse, passing through deserts, mountains, forests and coastlines. We departed in the early morning and went towards the west. At first, there dry desert land that slowly changes into breathtaking views. we noticed tall and majestic saguaro cacti standing against the backdrop of a large desert, this plant is also the symbol of Arizona State. The colors of the surrounding mountains change as the sunlight moves, going from yellow-brown to red and purple. It was like watching a mesmerizing visual show.
Here are some of the views:
At lunch we had a “weird” type of food in a cowboy restaurant. I don’t remember the name of the food anymore, but it was something like Taco mixed with rice and a special sauce. It was very filling and tasty, but not something I would eat every day.
We stopped by the “Plank Road Historic Site” near the border. It was a sunny day but not really stifling. This site preserves a section of the old wooden road that was built in 1915. Our car was even sunk in the sand, all of us need to get out and push the car for almost an hour. It was crazy but a good memory. We laughed at our misfortune and took some pictures of our adventure. We were glad that we had enough water and snacks in the car to keep us hydrated and energized.
In the future, for sure I will be there again, because I’m curious how it looks like now. The US-Mexico border is constantly changing and evolving. It’s worth visiting and understanding.
