My Trip To Hanoi Fall, 2020

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is a city with a rich cultural heritage and a long history. It offers a unique blend of traditional and modern experiences, making it a must-visited destination for travelers. Especially, in the fall the city is even more fabulous with a cool weather, amazing places and way of life to us to explore. In late 2020 my friend and I travelled there for the first time, the following are destinations we visited and highly recommend you to visit whenever you take a trip to this fascinating capital city.

Hoan Kiem Lake (Hồ Hoàn Kiếm):

This stunning lake is located in the heart of the city and is a popular gathering place for locals and tourists. The lake is surrounded by beautiful gardens and is a great place for a leisurely stroll. We got sticky rice from a street vendor and a cup of black coffee right at the bank of the lake. It couldn’t be better to start our day with a tasty cup of coffee in such a cool weather of late fall without any tasks or emails as usual. My friend-Binh is a close friend of mine, an engineer from Long Xuyen city in the Mekong River Delta, when it comes to travelling this dude is an expert. The one who always well prepared and take a study on the place where we about to visit. Then in the tour he acts as a tour guide. It’s lovely to have a bro. like him, that’s why after a long consideration I promoted him to be our “Travelling manager”.

Temple of Literature (Quốc Tử Giám):

The Temple of Literature, also known as Quốc Tử Giám, is a historic temple in Hanoi. Built in the 11th century, this is known as Vietnam’s first university, it’s one of the oldest and most well-preserved examples of traditional Vietnamese architecture beautiful gardens, and stone steles inscribed with the names of those who passed the rigorous imperial exams. The Temple of Literature is a symbol of Vietnam’s rich cultural and educational history, and remains an important site of national pride to this day. A great destination  for those interested in history and culture.

Old Quarter (Phố Cổ):

The Old Quarter is a historic neighborhood in Hanoi that has been around for over a thousand years. It is a maze of narrow streets lined with shops, street vendors, and local cafes, making it a great place to explore and immerse yourself in local life and cuisines. If my memory serves me well, in the 2nd day we had a really good breakfast at Bat Dan Pho restaurant. It’s one of the most famous places to have Pho in Hanoi. We had to wait in a long line of people with no ending. But it was worth it, the broth was delicious and not too fatty. They sliced the beef just before serving, so it was fresh, and combined with traditional spices, it made for an amazing Pho.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (Lăng Bác):

This mausoleum is dedicated to our first President Ho Chi Minh (also known as Uncle Ho). I believe that for all Vietnamese people, when we have the opportunity to visit Hanoi, this place is the first destination we would like to visit. We come here to meet our hero, our leader who brought independence to us. Also learn about his life and legacy. Nowadays, this mausoleum is also a popular tourist destination.

Tran Quoc Pagoda (Chùa Trấn Quốc):

This ancient pagoda is located on the shores of West Lake and is considered one of the oldest and most important religious sites in Hanoi. The pagoda offers stunning views of the lake and is a great place for a peaceful and serene experience.

I may not recall all the details from the other places, but here you have it my 2020 trip to Hanoi. The Capital City has something for everyone, whether you’re into history, culture, religion, or entertainment. The city is vibrant and full of energy, and I loved exploring the streets and trying the delicious street food. The temples and historical sites were also really impressive, and I learned a lot about the city’s rich history and culture. If you’re looking for a destination that’s fun, exciting, and full of amazing experiences, then Hanoi should definitely be on your list.
