How to name Football positions in English

We are in such a great moment of World cup 2018, Although my Vietnam team can not join in WC this time, but we are on progress and I believe that someday in the course of my life I can enjoin the moment that our national team playing in a WC game.

1. Attacker/Striker/forward

The player that his (her) main role in a team is to score goals. My favorite striker is CR7, he is a determined, hard working person. Always perform with 100% effort and a confident guy. I could learn lots of things from this man.

2. Midfielder

Midfielder is an association football position. Midfielders are generally positioned on the field between defenders and strikers. Actually based on their role we can split midfielder into some types

Central midfielder

These players will try to get and pass the ball and control central area of the field, the can support for both defenders and strikers while attacking or defending.

Wide midfielder

Left and right midfielders have a role balanced between attack and defense, similar to that of central midfielders, but they are positioned closer to the touchlines of the pitch.

Defensive midfielder

Defensive midfielders are midfield players who focus on defense. These players may defend a zone in front of the defenders
There are a thousands of good midfielders but I have to tell you that Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are my favorite. Their manner is not based on physical strong but wisdom and creative.

3. Defender

The player who tries to stop the other team from scoring a goal, their controlling area is just in front of goalkeeper. Marking, covering, and tackling these are main roles of a defender. Having some types of defender based on their roles and position.

Centre-back

A centre-backs defend in the area directly in front of the goal and try to prevent opponents from scoring.

Sweeper

The sweeper is a more versatile centre-back who sweeps up the ball if an opponent manages to breach the defensive line. This position is rather more flexible than that of other defenders.

Full-backs

The full-backs (the left-back and the right-back) take up the holding wide positions and traditionally stayed in defense at all times. But in modern football they also join in attacking.

Wing-backs

The wing back is a “modern version” of full-back, this type of defender focuses more on attack than defense. This position requires the most physical strong and resilience from player.

4. Goalkeeper

The special player, the only person can use hand to catch the ball, their role is prevent the ball from being flown into the goal.

5. Coach

Their role like a boss, manage team players, they involve in instruction, strategies and tactics for the games.

6. Referee

The person responsible for enforcing the Laws of the Game during the course of a match. He or she is the final decision-making authority on all facts connected with play, the only person can start and stop the match.

Assistant referee

This is the person who runs up and down the football pitch (field). Their job is to tell the referee if the ball goes out. They are also important when it comes to helping with offside decisions.
