2 reasons for restriction of phone in school.
Nowadays, mobile phones are ubiquitous among students, besides the conveniences that the device brings to students in study and the connectedness to their family. There are plenty of negative effects to students and society. Such as distraction and the lack of in person interaction between students, which is crucial in their early age. From my perspective, I’m totally in favor of restriction the use of mobile phone in schools on both academically and socially.
Academically, Phone restriction will help students to stay focus in study. Simply because we all agree that online social networks (Facebook, Twitters, Instagram, etc.) are common productivity killers and these applications can be easily installed on any smartphone. By removing this irresistible factor-the phone, students can pay more attention into educational matters and enlarge attention spans for themselves. In the long run, their performance will significantly be improved.
Socially, improving the connectedness among students, besides learning the academic subjects, school is the best social context for students. In which they learn how to communicate, how to socialize and create their own social networks. Recent years, with the booming of the above-named applications students have been over-relying on their phone as a tool for communicating. They are losing the ability of showing their facial expressions, their emotions, gesture language, and the other way around, they don’t know how to realize and further express their empathy to the feeling of others.
In conclusion, with all of the above benefits, restriction of mobile phone usage is crucial mission to do for legislators. But the schools also need to be flexible to students, they should not completely prohibit students from bringing their phone to class. My suggestion is that they can bring the device, but the only time frame it can be used is after school hours, when they need to contact with their parents.
