My thought about American people
American people
Time flies, I’ve been staying in the US nearly 5 months for my business trip, it’s tough when you have to stay alone far away from your country, without friends and a living environment that you are so familiar with. But it’s also a good opportunity for myself to get more experiences about the US. A more technological advance country than my Vietnam. Learn more about 
their culture, their people, the way they work, the way the treat each of the individual. US is not an absolutely strange county for me. They are the biggest economy in the world, with advance technological development and the leading nation in plenty of industries. And especially, when I started to learn English through “Friends” and “The Big bang theory” these 2 famous sitcom movies have educated me a lot about American culture. And after this long trip I have more insight views about this nation, so excited to share some of my thoughts to you guys, my readers.
When I come to any new place the first aspect that I want to learn is about people. Generally, American people are nice and easy going, I got along with this new environment quickly because my colleagues they are so friendly and always support me anytime they can. Shortly talk about my trip here, I come here for a new product development. The company that I’m working for they have a factory in Vietnam and a technology development (TD) site in the US. Before the trip I heard that people from TD they are so arrogant, most of the engineers there have PHD. Or at least Master degree. When you come up with something new or an idea, you need to explain by science language and in a fundamental way. Then they will challenge and ask many tough questions until they clear out all of the things. It’s tough to work with those guys. But in fact, it’s the other way around with what I thought, my counterparts here they are friendly to work with, and such a collaborative team. Because I’m new for this project so they’re providing strongly technical support for me to catch up with them. With that I get along with the working environment so quickly. Thanks for my fellows.
For me to describe about American’s personalities, I can say Respect – straightforward – “Big”. These words can represent the characters of a typical American. (This is just my opinion through the time I stay here. Based on my experiences and feeling about people here. Some of you may agree some may not).
Respect
When it comes to the way they treat each other, I think Respect is the best fit to describe American character. Maybe because this country is well known as a country of migrants, the combination of people from all over the world with multi-culture, multi-shade of skin colors, multi-religion. So the only way to harmonize all of those “multi” is respect. You can be whatever you want to be, choose whatever life style you want. No one has the right to judge the way you live, the way you think as long as you don’t violate the law from your state government or the federal government. This’s a very good mindset, good thing for me to learn.
Straightforward
Specifically talking about my working environment and generally with US firms, they always try to create a straightforward culture. When they see something wrong they speak up without hesitation, I like this kind of thinking because it’s fit with my personality. In working I want to surface up all of the issues, all of the problems to others, so we all can be aware of and collaborate to overcome together. In spite of having a straightforward mindset they tend to find the smoother, softer way to express, avoiding rudeness. They seem to use words in a less offensive way.
“Big” culture
Literally, their meal is too big (for me), the first evening when I arrived here it was very tired day after a 20 hours long flight, I want to have a good meal so I came 
to a steak restaurant and ordered a piece of beef steak with a small size. But you know, when the food came out, it wasn’t small as I thought the portion was like a pound of beef. And after nearly 5 months here even until now their appetizer alone also make me full already. Maybe because they are big so they need to consume enough food. But don’t be worry if you can’t finish your meal you can get a to go box for the leftover, myself do it all the time.
Anyway, I like their fast food like Pizza and especially hamburger, they are convenience, nutritious and provide enough energy for your day. Also fall in love with fried chicken wing, my favorite lunch for weekend is to have 7 chicken wings with a cup of beer and watching American football at a restaurant name “Wild Buffalo Wings”. I like this place because they have lots of big screens on the walls with plenty types of sport such as baseball, basketball and American football.
